Carlos Alcaraz, who made his US Open debut this summer, spoke to CNN after a long-awaited first appearance at a major tennis tournament.

He spoke about the long road to his US Open debut, as well as his expectations for the new tournament.

“I felt I was ready for one of the tournaments. I like the US Open. Being here at a major is great for the sport. I also think I’m ready to play at least three times in the rest of the year and to play at least two more tournaments here in the rest of the year.

“I’m really happy being part of this team. I think we’re very good. I see what we’re doing on the court with the guys. I hope we can build on it.”

It was the third time Alcaraz played at the US Open, after having previously lost in this tournament in 2003.

Alcaraz first came to the US Open as part of the ATP tennis circuit, a circuit he has been a part of since age 18.

“I had never seen the US Open and it was the first time in Argentina, so it was really cool to play here. Everything here is very special and nice. It’s nice to be here also in August.

“I played in an exhibition tournament. Some people called me a ‘wildcard’ because I didn’t play in the main draw. I didn’t play there the first day, because it was in April and when
