Julie Bowen is a gay man who in real life identifies as bisexual, but in interviews says she never had a sexual relationship with a woman.
She reveals she identifies as straight, but says she had a sexual relationship with a woman during her first year of university.
The actor, who plays gay police officer Danny Torrence on BBC One’s EastEnders, has spoken out about her sexual identity in an interview with The Sun.
In a new interview, Julie says she identifies as gay but is unsure if she had a relationship with a woman during her first year of university — where she had an affair with a man.
She tells The Sun: ‘I was never in a sexual relationship with a woman during my undergraduate years.
‘I’m not entirely sure where that experience fit.
‘I think it could have been a first one.’
The actress revealed she was in a relationship with a man during her first year in college before she had the affair with the man who became her partner, who she says is a professional footballer.
Julie, 45, who played Danny Torrence in EastEnders, adds: ‘I don’t think I knew what a woman was at the time — it was not until I met my partner that I thought they were something else.
‘I always thought I must be straight, but there were moments when I felt a yearning for someone who wasn’t.
‘It didn’t come to me until I met my partner, a professional footballer.’
Julie, who says she is in a relationship with her partner, insists that she felt the same thing about a woman.
She says: ‘I always thought I must be straight, but there were moments when I felt a yearning for someone who wasn’t.
‘It didn’t come to me until I met my partner, a professional footballer.
‘All things considered, I didn’t think about it.
‘I never sought it out. It was always there.
‘I just accepted that it was always there, but didn’t know what to do
