LACMA Opens New Lobby and Reception Area

At Art + Film gala, LACMA celebrates coming ‘unstuck,’ with new building 50% done

As part of its ongoing commitment to building new spaces for the collection and exhibition of art and photography, LACMA is opening its new building to the public for the first time in its history: on July 20, the museum will host its first-ever public event in the new, expanded lobby and reception area.

The lobby space is part of LACMA’s ongoing expansion to make more space available to the museum’s permanent collection, curators, galleries, programs, and events. This is in addition to the museum’s new galleries, which will open to the public in 2017.

The reception area, also new for this building, will be a space for the public to explore and learn more about LACMA. It can also be used for special themed events, such as a pop-up exhibition or symposium, and as a large-scale teaching platform for education programs and master classes.

With this new space we’re proud to be able to meet our commitment to our patrons and our public, to meet our institutional and cultural goals, and to build a public experience not only for visitors, residents and the local community, but for a newly educated public, too.

LACMA welcomes our public—our visitors, community members, students, and staff—to enter the newly expanded lobby with us for the July 20 opening event.
