Simona Halep of Romania has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect by the WTA
The WTA had issued a decision on Simona Halep with immediate effect after she tested positive for clenbuterol – a banned substance in wada regulation from 2013
The Court of Arbitration for Sport had in a decision on Sunday ruled that in light of Halep’s positive test for the prohibited substance, the match was no longer valid and the Romanian player could no longer play.
The WTA will now have five weeks to appeal and the decision will be reviewed at a future point in time.
A decision by the IAAF on the case is yet to be released.
“We have not yet received a statement from the IAAF, but in our view, this is part of the WTA’s strategy to avoid an appeal and to delay the situation as much as possible,” the WTA statement read.
“We fully acknowledge the positive test results of Simona Halep as part of the WTA sanctions.”

The decision was also made with a two-year ban for Vesnina and $40,000 and a fine for the Russian federation.
It was announced in a statement from the Russian sporting federation via Sport24.
